Event Information

This presentation will walk through the Maguire Street Corridor Upgrade in Warrensburg, Missouri, from early concept and study through construction completion and ribbon cutting in December 2025. Delivered using a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) approach, the project required early alignment between the City, engineer, contractor, and utilities to balance safety, access management, aesthetics, and cost control. Presenters will discuss why the City chose to “study first,” how CMAR was leveraged to manage risk and utility coordination, and the importance of empowered decision-making. The session will share practical lessons on extracting full value from a CMAR partner, maintaining construction flexibility, and using proactive communication to support both the community and project team—offering actionable takeaways for municipal owners and industry consultants alike.

Presented by Brenda Macke and Peyton Stoner.

Brenda Macke is an Associate Project Manager in the Transportation Group at Burns & McDonnell. She has been involved in the Maguire Street Corridor Upgrade from initial concept and study through construction completion and ribbon cutting, leading a multidisciplinary team of more than 60 technical staff through complex analysis, design, and delivery of corridor improvements. Brenda’s work blends project vision with practical technical application, helping educate the community and elected officials on key tradeoffs and decision points throughout planning and design. Her leadership supported integration of outside funding opportunities and ongoing coordination with the City on land use planning that complements the recently completed improvements.

Peyton Stoner is an Assistant Construction Manager in the Transportation Group at Burns & McDonnell, where he focuses on alternative project delivery methods, including Progressive Design-Build and Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR). Peyton became involved in the Maguire Street Corridor Upgrade during CMAR selection and played a key role in early coordination and communication with Capital Paving LLC, the City’s selected CMAR. Representing the Owner, he observed and facilitated all phases of construction in close collaboration with City staff and the CMAR team, supporting issue resolution, field-level decision-making, and project delivery through ribbon cutting. His experience bridges owner expectations, contractor execution, and delivery strategy on complex municipal infrastructure projects.
