Michael Kelly will give an overview of BikeWalkKC and the work it has done before discussing some of the policy and planning efforts they’re exploring for 2024. This will include an overview of their mission, the various focus areas of the organization, past policy and planning efforts, and pertinent policy and planning efforts for the new year.
Bio: Michael serves as the policy director for BikeWalkKC. In that role, he leads the organization’s efforts to advocate for the policies, plans, and projects that make it safer and easier for people to walk, roll, bike, and use public transit across the Kansas City metro. He is a nationally-recognized leader on active transportation policy and advocacy, and was recognized as the 2020 Emerging Leader of the Year by the League of American Bicyclists. He has helped to craft some of the best Complete Streets policies in the nation, according to Smart Growth America. In addition to his work at BikeWalkKC, Michael serves on several commissions for the City of Kansas City, MO, including the Vision Zero Task Force and the Climate Protection Steering Committee. He holds an associate’s degree in general studies from Kansas City Kansas Community College, a bachelor’s degree in political science and international studies from Kansas State University, and a master’s degree in public administration with an emphasis in urban policy from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
